Prehistoric archeology of Southeastern Iran compared to the other regions of Iranian Plateau is poorly known. The present knowledge of prehistoric cultures of the region is mostly through sparse 1960s excavations. Due to the existence of Early Bronze Age urban centers in this region, the little recent fieldworks were concentrated on the third millennium BCE. Hence, the other periods were neglected. In this paper, we attempted to appraise critically the previous studies as well as the common dominant views of southeastern Iran prehistory. In the last decade, ample evidence increasingly illustrated that the old chronology of Southeastern Iran needs a principal revision. In this paper, we will evaluate the prehistoric chronology of the region from the Neolithic to Iron Age and an updated chronological table of the Southeastern Iran prehistory will be presented. Finally, I have endeavored to study the prehistoric cultural developments of Southeastern Iran with the emphasis on local dynamics.
