Jiroft storage dam is one of the large dams of Iran that is faced with numerous sedimentary problems due to high rate of sediment inflow to its reservoir. In this study, the capability of six empirical equations, including England-Hansson, Larsson-Coopland, Meyer-Peter-Muller, Ackers-White, Yang and Toffalleti, in predicting the upstream river sediment load was investigated. By comparing the outputs of these relations with measured data at hydrometry station, it was concluded that Toffalleti and Ackers-White equations present more reasonable predictions about the inflowing sediment load to the reservoir. Therefore, these equations are suggested for sediment-related studies in this river.
