Title
Evaluating the Effect of Ceramic Coating on Temperature Gradient ofEngine Pistons
Type Presentation
Keywords
Ceramic Coating, FEM analysis, Temperature gradient, Thermal expansion
Abstract
It is noted that the aluminum made pistons of most internal combustion engines has a thermal expansioncoefficient 80% higher than the cylinder bore made of cast iron. So, it is very important to investigate the piston temperature distribution in order to maintain the thermal stresses and deformations within acceptable levels. In thisarticle, the effect of ceramic coating on thermal behavior of a diesel engine piston is numerically investigated by COSMOS. For coated piston, a considerable reduction is found thermal gradient and maximum temperature
