Abstract

In this study, a novel synthesis of Ag2S nanoparticles on the cellulose/Fe3O4 nanocomposite template through a green and economical method was proposed. The Ag2S nanoparticles grew on the environmentally benign cellulose/Fe3O4 nanocomposite via green pathway using the leaf and seed extract of Pistacia atlantica plants as reducing and stabilizing agent. The leaf extract showed the best results for developing of Ag2S nanoparticles on the nanocomposite surface. The synthesized magnetic nanocatalyst was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. This catalyst showed high reductive degradation performance for the removal of methyl blue, methyl red and methyl orange from wastewater. The magnetic nanocatalyst could be separated easily after the process with the assistance of an external magnet.
