چکیده

One of the key axes in the foundations of sea-based economy is renewable energy, including sea energy. Also, the analysis of solid-fluid interaction of submerged bodies can be considered a fundamental step to increase the efficiency of renewable energies. Therefore, in this research, the numerical investigation of the complex hydrodynamics of the collision of a rotating sphere with the free surface at low Froude numbers is discussed. According to the obtained results, the rotation of the sphere causes a lifting force on the sphere, and this force will cause a curve in the path of the sphere during its descent. ANSYS FLUENT 2020 R2 software is used for numerical simulation and the movement of the free surface of the fluid will be numerically simulated using Volume of Fluid equations. According to the obtained numerical results, the shape of the free surface and the cavity created while advancing the rotating sphere is completely different from the shape of the free surface and cavity created by the non-rotating sphere. Also, in this research, the lift and drag forces were calculated immediately after hitting the free surface and the present numerical results were compared with the existing laboratory results. According to the results obtained from the numerical simulation, the effects of rotation in proportion to the Froude number have less effect on the closing time of the cavity formed by the collision of the sphere with the free surface. Also, in this research, the lift and drag forces for a wide range of rotation rate, impact speed, density and diameter of the rotating sphere were calculated and presented comprehensively in a table. According to the comparison, a good agreement between the available numerical and laboratory results was observed.
