Abstract

α-Oxo ketenes (acylketenes) are of considerable current interest not only because of their use as intermediates in organic synthesis[l], but also as the subject of recent kinetic [2] and mechanistic [3]. Acyl ketenes were thermally generated from some precursors [4]. Herein, acyl ketenes were formed by acyl meldrum‘s acid. Acylketene provides an acetoacetylation procedure in the presence of nucleophiles. The reaction of acyl ketenes such as acetyl and benzoyl ketenes with 2-amino benzothiazole was investigated, that is postulated to lead to the formation of N-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-3-oxobutanamide and N- (benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-3-oxo-3-phenylpropanamide respectively (Scheme 1).
