چکیده

Nanocomposites are solid materials composed of several phases where at least one, two, or three dimensions are in the nanometer range. Nanocomposites have significant applications ranging from medical, pharmaceutical industry, food packaging, to electronics and energy industry. Rare-earth-based nanostructures constitute a type of functional materials widely used and studied in the recent literature. Their presence in alloys, ceramic, glass compounds, and oxide compounds provide special material properties. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a general and comprehensive overview of the current state of the synthesis methods of rare-earth-based nanoparticles and their different applications. The goal is to explain which raw material and technique are most suited for the processing of a particular nanocomposites-based rare earth elements as well as the application, advantages, and drawbacks of these nanocomposites. Nanotechnology is still in development and current limitations hinder its global transition from macroscale to nanoscale.
